Brillant and witty -- the must read Bill Gates book of 1998
You would be crazy to buy any other Bill Gates book. This is an insightful look at the world's richest man -- from the days of his youth, the big battles with Apple and IBM, and revealing insights into the big anti-trust case.

Great Resource
As a math teacher, I love to refer to this book and use theactivities often. I especially liked the section on decimals.Students can have difficulty realizing how big or small a decimal is and there is an activity that allows them to group the pictoral and the number version according to its size. It allows the students to see that a decimal close to 0 has very little shaded pictorally and that the decimal number starts with 0, 1, or 2. That is very important for those visual learners. Also, the estimation activities are very good because it covers estimation in terms of how many are in a space and estimates where rounding and then performing an operation are necessary. As a math resource teacher I have people coming to me a lot and when I show them activities from this book they are pleased and one has even bought it herself!

The Oxford Starter Italian Dictionary

Oxford Starter Italian
I carried this dictionary in Italy for three weeks last fall and used it constantly. My wife and I were travelling light so books were scrutinized before being included in my pack. We considered also taking a small phrase book and a more standard English/Italian dictionary and ended up taking only this one.

The Oxford Starter Dictionary does not take the place of a good phrase book because phrases are not arranged by topic. However, it has excellent sample phrases under alphabetical word entries in both the Italian-English and the English-Italian sections. This greatly improves its usefulness as a dictionary for beginners and even if you have some background in Italian (I had two years of Italian in University 20 years ago).

I like the clear, easy to read layout. There is good use of bold, italics, underlining, special symbols, and two ink colors (blue and black). The good quality bright white paper and reasonable point size is greatly appreciated in comparison with some language dictionaries which can be hard to read under marginal lighting (e.g. restaurants and train stations). I also like the physical dimensions - 5.5" x 7" and less than 3/4" thick. Much more convenient than the short, fat format of some dictionaries. It fit conveniently in my shoulder bag and is similar in size to guide books.

This is not a big dictionary, but its advantatges far outweigh this disadvantage. I would recommend this as the only dictionary you need while travelling unless you need a larger word list. This is the best travelling dictionary I have ever seen!

PHESANT HUNTERS THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!!!
Please excuse my spelling, it's terrible This book is terrific. I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. It is a fine collection of stories ranging from the great soilbank days when Kansas alone had 4 million birds to the Royal hunts in Europe where an average daily bag mesaures in the thousands, It has stories more like mine where the average hunt ends with tired dogs and few birds. The book through it's many differant authors also explores the ethics associated with hunting. This book is for the bird hunter who's cleaning his gun for the third time this week when hunting season isn;t for 6 months. It's for the guy who can't stop dreaming of how his new pup will do his first time out. It's for the guy who spends more time with his dogs than with his wife. All hunters will enjoy this book, but the true bird hunter won;t be able to put it down.

Review of Suicidology, 2000
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (27 January, 2000)
Authors: Ronald Maris, Morton Silverman, Silvia Canetto, John McIntosh, and Morton M. Silverman
Average review score:

Excellent book on Clinical Suicidology
Excellent book on Clinical Suicidology. It reflects the latest research findings in Clinical Suicidology, and reviews some of the research studies available.

For non professionals this book could be interesting but boring as the authors of the different chapters make a complete and systematic review of some of the research studies, with lots of statistical data and their analyzes, and their perspective and findings on different scientific approaches to suicidal behavior.

For all medical staff, it should be very useful to read and demystify some of the concepts that are generally associated with the use of medical terminology regarded to suicidal behavior and many other subjects that pertain to this behavior.

For the mental health professional, probably it will be a very useful resource for further clinical research and practice. The articles are scientifically very well presented and approached giving the reader a new vision on the evolution that has come under Clinical Suicidology and the much more that has to be done.

For those who haven't read the Review of Suicidology 1997, I would strongly advise to do it, because of its great usefulness and complements the 2000 edition.

Soil and Soul: Dispatches of a Celtic Ecowarrior
Published in Hardcover by Aurum Press (31 October, 1901)
Author: Alastair McIntosh

Much needed
Written by a Scotsman from the Isle of Harris. It goes into how it's been possible for local people over the world to lose their land to corporations and the ultra-rich. It links disposessed Scots to Native Americans and Pacific Islanders. It suggests how Western civilization has been able to view the planet as a non-living thing to be used up- and gives hope that we may once more view our home as alive, with us a part of its life, not its destroyer. Anecdotes, funny stories, myths, music, and poetry- this guy must be quite a character.

In the words of people who fought bravely for their country
A volunteer at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, James McIntosh is the ideal author for a project like Wisconsin At War: Through The Eyes Of Veterans. A truly memorable work that specifically covers Wisconsin's participation in all the wars throughout the twentieth century, beginning with World War I and continuing through Desert Storm, Wisconsin At War is enhanced with black-and-white photographs and a wealth of individual anecdotes filling this fascinating volume cover to cover. Told in the words of the people who fought bravely for their country, the historical perspectives on the events and experiences engaging Wisconsin men and women in the defense of their country is a seminal source reference, strongly recommended reading, and an essential, core acquisition for all academic and community library Wisconsin History collections.
